Project "Civic Strength"

What promotes Civic Strength and what threatens it?

Aleida Assmann, professor em. of English Studies and Literature at the University of Konstanz, Jan Assmann, honorary professor at the University of Konstanz and professor em. of Egyptology at the University of Heidelberg as well as Christiane Bertram, junior professor of social sciences didactics at the University of Konstanz focus on this question. The project „What promotes civic strength and what threatens it?“ was awarded the Dr. K. H. Eberle Prize in 2020. Within this project, an innovative research design combining the expertise of the three areas will be drafted. These three areas (memory studies, urban research and educational research) hardly ever worked together before. The main goal ist to establish a platform at the University of Konstanz to exchange the conditions of a cultural change towards more civic strength and sustainability between academic research and society. To the researchers, Civic strength consists of a general recognition of something common which, apart from descent, establishes a new sense of belonging and peaceful life together.
